Wearable Art

Have you ever wanted to wear colorful statement earrings, but have been worried they would pull on your earlobes? I have always worn long, dangly earrings. I even made and sold them for several years through my brands Karley Mott Jewelry and going WAY back, Loubird Handmade. However, I find that the bolder and bigger the earrings and the older I get, the more they tend to pull on my ears.

You don’t have to worry about that anymore. My handcrafted earrings are made out of layers of paper. First, I decide whether I will be using acrylic or watercolor paint, Sharpies, paint markers or alcohol markers. I may even use some gel crayons, oil pastels or tempera paint. I do this on heavy cardstock, brown kraft paper or watercolor paper. The piece is then applied to layers of heavy paper and sealed to protect it.

Sometimes I will create a large collage and then punch out the collage into shapes that become earrings, too.

While the earrings are sealed to protect the art and help them become water resistant, THEY ARE NOT SHOWER SAFE. These are not like your gold hoops are diamond studs that you can wear day after day for 20 years. They are paper and handpainted/drawn and are delicate.

What is so unique about these earrings is that no two pair of earrings are alike. In fact, no two earrings themselves will ever be identical.
